Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has urged the United States of America and other foreign advanced nations to be more concerned about the development of democracy in Nigeria.

Tambuwal highlighted that this has become necessary in order to deepen citizen’s participation in governance and enhance transparency in government activities at all levels.

According to the Rep. Speaker  who delivered a paper on ‘Leadership in Developing Democracies’ at a roundtable organized by the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, USA, the developed democracies also have duty to ensure the success of the democracy experiment in emerging democracies.

He asserted that the developed democracies must not be weary of investing in the continuous training and improvement of leadership capabilities in emerging democracies, adding that no development assistance is more crucial for emerging democracies than assistance targeted at nurturing of their future leaders.
