Hundreds of illegal structures of shops, stalls and eateries that were built in public spaces, were pulled down by the Djibouti authorities since August, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.
The bulldozers, accompanied by dozens of Police officers, clears major neighbourhoods in the Djiboutian capital of illegal commercial buildings under a campaign tagged “Djibouti Clean City” which involved the removal of trash from city streets.
The ongoing campaign started August 17th and first targeted neighbourhoods in Ward 1 and Ward 2, and the capital’s main square Mahmoud Harbi Place. It would move to other parts of the city soon.
Abandoned vehicles and garbage littering the streets were picked up by road service pickup trucks while a police unit has been posted around-the –clock in the targeted neighbourhoods to block owners of illegal businesses from returning.
