Oyo Commissioner alleges threat to life… Rejects N7m bribe

The Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Habitat, Barrister Lowo Obisesan on Tuesday disclosed that in the course of implementing the transformation agenda of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, there has been threat to his life and that of his family.

 

Speaking in an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA news in Ibadan, the Commissioner said there was a time he rejected N7 million from those allegedly against the demolition and transformation of Ogunpa market in the state capital.

 

While noting that there had been strong opposition to the transformation agenda, the commissioner reiterated that the aim of the demolition exercise was to beautify, ensure security of lives and property.

 

In a nutshell, the commissioner said the whole idea was to woo both local and

foreign investors  to Oyo state."My experience as Commissioner for Environment and Habitat has been rough and hectic. There has been threat to my life and that of my family members. There are a lot of threat messages while in most cases they have to put a call to my phone.

 

"In the course of transforming the Ogunpa market, I have to reject bribe of N7 million brought by some people who are against the demolition exercise," he said.

 

Obisesan who recalled that apart from threat to lives and bribery, there was set-up by some people who alleged the he was involved in arms and ammunition just to destroy his person and his name, based on the urban renewal project of the Ajimobi-led government that he is carrying out across the whole Oyo State.

 

The commissioner, who noted that most of the people in the State who are benefactors, or have their livelihood attached to the illegal shops and shanties, disclosed that there was no way government can embark on demolition exercise without stepping on toes.

 

According to him, there is threat to lives of  my family members while others wanted me to resign from government or prepare to lose my life and that of my family members.

 

"Some herbalists who believe that they have spiritual powers always threatened to kill me and members of my family," he said.

However he said these had not deter him in carrying out his duty as directed by the governor.

 

He explained that the demolition of illegal structures had reduced rate of

insecurity in the State, as many investors have indicated interests in investing in the State. He assured that the transformation agenda will no doubt ensure security of lives and property of the citizenry, adding that the agenda would be sustained.

In conclusion, the honourable commissioner expressed profound gratitude to the good people of Oyo State for their corporation in the ongoing urban renewal project of the Ajimobi-led government.
