The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Kafanchan Unit Command reported to have prosecuted 31 motorists along Abuja-Bade-Gidan Waya-Jos federal highway.

According to the unit commander, Jacob Iyima, who disclosed this in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, the motorists were arrested and prosecuted by the corps mobile court.

He said that the operation was authorised by the FRSC headquarters as part of efforts to sanction motorists who refused to stop for routine inspection.

Iyima pointed out that the commission is more concerned with safety of lives and property on the highways than arresting violators, but that the attitude of some motorists necessitated the prosecution exercise.

He further explained that the FRSC had engaged the assistance of police and military personnel to ensure the enforcement of the mobile court’s judgements due to the rude and careless attitude of some motorists.

He purported that the 31 motorists, whose vehicles were impounded, were charged with 38 different offences, adding that the most prevalent offences were those of number plates, seat belt and windscreen violations.
