The Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, has suspended a male nurse for three months for allegedly injecting a patient who kicked against Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat in the last general election with unprescribed drugs.

It was gathered that the nurse, Alozie Ejimadu, injected the patient with the unprescribed sleeping drugs during the March 28 presidential election because she shouted that she was not happy that Jonathan failed.

The hospital also suspended two other members of staff of the hospital, Anthony Ozurumba and Ejike Ihezue for other offences.

The hospital accused Ozurumba of participating in one-year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) without permission, an offence it said was against civil service rule. He was reportedly earning full salary throughout the service year while working full time.

For Ejimadu, he reportedly boasted on his facebook wall that the patient would sleep till after the result of the presidential election had been announced.

A non-governmental organization, Centre for the Right of Psychiatric Patients, petitioned the board chairman of the hospital.

“His activities as was posted on facebook by himself is a gross violation and abuse of the rights of a psychiatric patient.

“Mr. Alozie’s activity is unbecoming of a psychiatric nurse in whose care a patient is left. We demand the hospital to immediately remove him from the clinical area and suspend him to identify the patient and assess possible damage to the patient.”
