The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation has invited two more overseas-based Nigerian players for the Olympic Games and the All-Africa Games qualifiers against Togo in June.
The two players Danjuma Msheila of Richmond RFC and Temi Okenla of Gravesend RFC, join Buffalo University’s Ike Onwukanjo as the Black Stallions aim to qualify for the rugby event of the 2016 Olympic Games.
The Stallions will face Ghana, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Mali and hosts Togo in a tournament in Lome, which will serve as a part of qualifiers for the two competitions. The competition will begin on June 6.
Both players play in the UK and were involved in the Black Stallions team back in 2013 at the Mombasa Sports Club, Kenya when Nigeria reached the semi finals at the Confederation of African Rugby’s 7s in which Danjuma scored a try against Kenya.
According to the vice president of the federation, Olatunji Fasimoye, the NRFF has been looking for overseas-based players eligible to compete for Nigeria as a way to boost their efforts to qualify for the Rio Olympics and are happy to have Danjuma and Temitope back in the team.
“Their addition to the team will help in terms of their experience and also add depth to our playing style,” he said.
