Murder charges have been filed by the United States of America government against a Malian national who was accused of killing a U.S defense official, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.
The 42-year-old man, Alhassane Ould Mohamed, was alleged to have shot and killed America’s William Bulteleier, Niger's capital, Niamey, on December 23, 2000.
According to sources, the deceased was working at the U.S. embassy in Niger at the time of his death.
An unnamed co-conspirator shot and seriously wounded a U.S. Marine staff sergeant who ran to Bultemeier's aid. The two alleged assailants then drove away in Bultemeier's car, a licensed diplomatic vehicle.
Mohamed was arrested in Mali two days after the shooting, but escaped in 2002. It was also said that the man was convicted in 2010 at Niger for the murder of four Saudi Arabians but escaped again from prison in June, 2013.
Our source said the man has been declared wanted by the FBI with a reward of $20,000 for information leading to his arrest. Mohamed sometimes goes by the alias of “Cheibani” and speaks Arabik, French and Tamasheq.
