The Academic Staff Union of Union (ASUU) has maintained their ground on their demand for the 100 percent implementation of the 2009 agreement.

CEOAFRICA gathered from this according to the statement by Chairman of the Bauchi zone of the union, Dr Lawan Abubakar who disclosed that the union has viewed that the Federal Government was not transparent and sincere in addressing the rot in the country’s education sector.

According to him, the Federal Government’s refusal to implement an agreement it freely and consciously entered into with the union four years ago is equivalent to playing politics with the future of Nigerian students.

He explained that the union’s refusal to shift ground was as a result of its past experience in the hands of government, adding that government had in the past set a deadline for implementing each of the nine-point demand of ASUU, but had failed to implement till date.

He however highlighted that ASUU had in December 2011 went on strike over the same non-implementation of the 2009 agreement, asserting that the Federal Government kept delaying on the implementation.
