Women in the services of Nigerian Police and other paramilitary
organizations have been urged to be a pioneer of positive change and emulate the good example of a woman Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Julie Ajao who was one of recipients of Award of Excellence from Oyo State Official’s Wives Association (OSAWA).
The statement was made during the 2nd Women National Summit recently hosted by OSAWA where some women that have distinguished themselves in various field of endevours were recognized.
Notable among the awardees was the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Central Police Station Iyaganku Ibadan, CSP Julie Ajao who was recognized for her ‘Humanitarian Services to the less privileged and Invaluable contribution toward Poverty Alleviation in the State’ by the body championed by Oyo State First Lady, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi.
While presenting the plague to the woman Police during a dinner organized to climax the 3-day event held at Kakanfo Inn Ibadan, The wife of the governor described her as a good example of a law enforcement officer who had recorded excellence marks in a field dominated by men.
She however charged other women in the state to look beyond seeing themselves as agent of change taking after models fashioned by men, but to go a step further by raising women to the level of being a pioneer of change as dictate by the theme of this year’s summit “Women as Pioneer of Change”.
Meanwhile, Members of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) Iyaganku branch also described the award of excellence bestowed on the Chief Superintendent of Police, as good development that would make the woman Police do more for the people of the area.
In a chat with CEOAFRICA correspondent after the event, Alhaji Tajudeen Karonwi, chairman of Iyaganku PCRC described CSP Ajao as a God sent, whose diligence and commitment to duty had stabilized the security situation within a short time of her resumption at the Central Police Station and he believe that the award would spur her to do more.
“We are happy for CSP Ajao for emerging as one of the recipients of the Award of Excellence from Chief Mrs. Florence Ajimobi led OSAWA. This did not come as a surprise to us because since her resumption, we have been enjoying relative peace in this area and moreover, she is a woman of the people who always settled disputes with high sense of wisdom without taking side” Karonwi said.
Speaking further, Alhaji Karonwi commended the State First Lady, for the initiative of the award because rewarding people would only make them do more for the society.
CEOAFRICA correspondent also spoke with the Police Public Relation officer (PPRO) DSP. Olabisi Ilobanafor on the award given to CSP Ajao,DPO Iyaganku Division. She said the Commissioner of Police Mohammed Indabawa and the entire management team of Oyo State Police command are proud of her and wants to use this medium to tell officers and men of the Nigeria Police force to imbibe the spirit of hard work and professionalism in discharge of their duties.
