Three Tanzanian opposition parties staged a rally to urge President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania to reject the Constitution Review Bill recently approved by the National Assembly, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.

Addressing the crowd at the occasion, Chairman for Cham Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) opposition party, Freeman Mbowe, accused the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party of punishing the bill through without consulting those outside its party.

CHADEMA was joined at the rally by the National Convention for Construction and Reform-Maguezi (NCCR-Maguezi) and the Civic United Front joined CHADEMA at the rally.

It was also disclosed that the opposition vowed not to attend the Constituent Assembly without amendments to the Constitutional Review (Amendment) Bill 2013.

“The government must understand the fact that the constitution is meant for the future of the country as a whole and it should not have been geared to the interests of any party,” said NCCR-Mageuzi Chairman James Mbatia.
