1 Died, 51 Injured in Pre-Election Violence in Guinea

From Conakry, it was disclosed that one person has died, while more than 50 others sustained severe injuries during campaign clashes in Guinea.

The deceased was identified as a police trainee, while two others were injured while clearing roadblocks in the capital, Conakry. The clash was between two rival political parties.

In a statement released to the press, the government called on political parties to get their supporters to exercise restraint and say no to violence.

It was earlier announced that the parliamentary election, which suppose to hold on Tuesday, have been postponed till September 28 so as to address various issues over voters lists raised by opposition parties.

Parliamentary election, which was seen as the final transition process from military dictatorship to civilian rule, has been postponed several times since December 2011.
