Following the controversies that trailed the unpaid workers’ salaries, a socio-political organisation, Osun Stakeholders, has stressed the need for the convocation of summit on the affairs of the state with a view to addressing challenges facing the state particular the state of finance and unpaid salaries to workers.

The spokespersons of the group, Yinka Odumakin and Niyi Owolade, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, at the weekend unveiled the planned summit being proposed by the group which they argued would hold on Thursday this week.

Odumakin and Owolade maintained that the group expected no fewer than 250 delegates from all parts of the state for the summit which will comprises former governors; their deputies; former senators and speakers of the State House of Assembly; traditional rulers; industrial unions; political parties; elder statement; business leaders; members of academic  community; religious leaders among others.

They however exempted the present political office holders from the planned summit adding that it would not want to summit have political colouration.

Odumakin and Owolade said, “we have reviewed the situation in the state and come to the conclusion that even if the vaults of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were to be opened to our state, we would not be able to get out of this bankruptcy if there are no right ideas to manage its affairs”.

But in a swift reaction, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state faulted the planned summit, describing it as a recipe for chaos.

While alleging that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was behind the planned summit, the APC in a statement issued by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, called on security agents to be on alert and keep a close watch on the organisers of the summit.

The APC alleged that the organisers were surrogates of PDP governorship candidate, Iyiola Omisore.

According to APC, “the Summit is a ploy intended to beat security and create the atmosphere for mayhem, which the security agencies had foiled on several occasions.
