US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter arrived in Jordan Tuesday to meet with American troops and colleagues of a Jordanian pilot burned alive by Daesh, AFP reported.
Carter’s arrival in Jordan marks the second leg of a regional mission to reassure US allies regarding the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers. However, the secretary was not scheduled to hold talks with Jordanian officials on that subject.
He will meet with US troops stationed in Jordan as well as Jordanian forces who were comrades of Lieutenant Mu’ath al-Kasasbeh, a pilot who was captured and in December and later burned alive by Daesh after his plane was shot down during a mission over Syria, AFP reported.
Earlier Tuesday, he met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a fierce critic of last week's nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers.
Carter is scheduled to travel on to Saudi Arabia Wednesday, AFP reported.
