Manchester United are ready to break their transfer record and spend a whopping £70 million to bring Thomas Muller to Old Trafford, according to reports in Germany.

The Bayern Munich forward will be offered a five-year deal by Louis van Gaal.

When asked if he was worried about his group of strikers, he said: "No, because  westill we have Rooney, he can play in the striker's position.
"Also we have Chicharito [Hernandez] and maybe Wilson and maybe there comes a surprise. It's a process. Hernandez is coming [to join us on the tour] on July 25.

"He can prove himself and now Falcao and Van Persie are gone so his chances are better. I'm not worried about that position."

And German publication, Bild says United are close to a deal for Muller.
The 25-year-old World Cup winner has won four Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and domestic cups with Bayern.

The fee would surpass the £59.9million it cost United to sign Angel Di Maria last summer and could even spell the end for the former Real Madrid man in Manchester.

Last week Van Gaal also confirmed he was hoping to bring in two more players.

He said: "We are not finished yet (over spending). As I have said many times we need a balance in the selection. I think we need to improve at least two positions and we shall do that.

"You always have to improve yourselves. Last season we were fourth and that was not good enough.

"We have to finish this season at least in the top three because we have to play a match to qualify for the Champions League and that is not so easy.

"So I think we have to improve the selection (squad). The selection also needs a good spirit and when new players are coming the spirit is challenged and that is good in the team bonding process I believe."
