
The two South Sudan rival factions have resumed talks on August 6, 2015 at Addis Abeba as President Obama put more pressure on the warring parties, urging them to reach come to a compromise by August 17th, 2015.
"Neither Salva Kiir nor Reche Machar have so far shown any interest ending their people's sufering or in reaching a political solution," said Obama during his recent address to the African Union (AU). He indicated that the world would see other options if Machar and Kiir fail to come to terms.
Akuel Bona, ambassador of South Sudan to Ethiopia and Djibouti and permanent representative to the AU, IGAD and UNECA said, "There are some who say we have to eliminate the political elites of South Sudan; these are the leaders of South Sudan and they have to deal with them," he added.
