All arrangements have been made by the Ogun State government towards the establishment of a 50-Hectare Cashew plantation, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.

According to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun, the gesture is another means of demonstrating that the government is ready to make the state self-sustaining in agricultural productions and transforming it to another food basket of the nation.

The land located at Afon, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, is presently being cleared and ploughed.

She revealed that the ground-breaking and planting ceremony would flag off next month, expressing optimism that when it becomes fully operational, it would serve the immediate needs of cashew processing factories in the country and increase the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

It will be recalled that the State government had some weeks back embarked on the cultivation of a 100-hectare rice plantation in Eggua in Yewa North Local Government Area with a plan to also establish a rice processing factory in the same location next year.

The commissioner urged Afon inhabitants and its environs to protect the plantation jealously since many employment shall be provided for their youths and experienced farmers.

While responding to questions from journalists about the Eggua rice plantation, Sokefun said all the structures that would sustain it have already been put in place, reiterating government’s commitment to sustain all its innovative agricultural efforts in the state.
