The Ethiopian Athletics Federation, (EAF) has expressed total confidence in the country has nothing to fear about any of her athletes being caught in the web of doping scandals.
This was disclosed by the federation's official Dube Jilo.
"There are athletes who take doping to enhance their performance. In our case we had little problem in this regard. Most of our international top athletes who were examined before and after the event are confirmed free from doping. So far there is no official letter that came from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that suggests that Ethiopian athletes were involved in the recent doping crises. Our athletes are ready to take genuine title in the coming World Championship that will begin next Saturday in Beijing," Dube said to journalists.
The Ethiopian athletes were given a farewell party at the Ararat Hotel on Sunday. In all 34 athletes will participate in Beijing World Championship.
Kenyan and Russian athletes are heavily involved in doping scandal. "Hard work has been the source of our strength. The hills and the natural high altitude help us to achieve high in the international arena," Dube said.
Despite this he said that National Anti-Doping Agency has been formed in Ethiopia to closely monitor the activities of the athletes. In his view athletes are advised not to take any drugs unless it is prescribed by doctors. Sometimes drugs ordered by physicians could be banned by WADA. In this case the national Anti-Doping Agency orient athletes not to take any drug that is included in the WADA banned list.
The federation is confident that the Ethiopian athletes are by far and large free from involving in doping scandal. "What we now know for sure is there is no fear in this regard. Our athletes win by sweating to the finish. We will keep on doing that way," Dube remarked.
