The Ondo State Government has reiterated its stand on the ban of commercial motorcycle popularly known as (*Okada*), saying that its suspension order on their activities in Akure, the state capital, as well as the ban on ticketing activities by the operators across the state is still valid.
It should be recalled that last month (July), the State Government banned the activities of the commercial motorcyclist in Akure.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, he maintained that the suspension order is still active until government is done with its reformation process on the operation of the commercial motorcyclists in the state.
Part of the statement read: “Government is using the period of the suspension of the O*kada* operation in the state capital (metropolis) to work out a permanent and fraud-free arrangement that will ensure effective work mode of the *okada* operators without any threat to the security of the state
“The operators should maintain peace and cooperate with the State Government in its determination to ensure they have a regularised and effective mode of operation. There is the need for the operators to be properly identified. Government wants them to perfect their papers and be well regulated, that is what government is working to achieve and the cooperation of everyone is needed in this regard,” he explained.
