Expert has disclosed that losses associated to agriculture can be addressed through the application of agricultural biotechnology.
Hajiya Rabi S. Jimeta, Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology had disclosed this in a statement during the last Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) held at the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology Conference Hall in Abuja.
According to Hajiya who purported that agricultural losses through insect infestation and low quality crop production have posed a very big challenge to food security, the application of biotechnology will not only reverse the trend but can also increase production of food crops with desirable traits.
Dr. Manasseh Gwaza, the Director, Physical and Life Sciences of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, who represented Hajiya at the occasion also remarked that OFAB has among its various inputs in the area of biotechnology also to have sensitized on current trends which can the ministry discuss effectively and proffer solutions for agricultural development.
