The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Tuesday handed over a 10-month-old baby, Emmanuel to his family members at the Ibadan Central Hospital, Ososami, Ibadan.
The FRSC team was led by the Oluyole Unit Head of Operation, Francis Adejare Ajatta who represented the unit commander, Commander Sanya Adeoye. He received the baby from Dr Oriola Olafeso who was on duty at the hospital.
However, baby Emmanuel who had earlier been christened Emmanuel by the FRSC and the medical team was known as Abdul Rasak Abayomi Molumo.
According to the birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission displayed at the ceremony, he was born on June 17, 2012, to Mr and Mrs Tajudeen and Fatimoh Molumo.
Abdulrasak was recovered on an accident which occurred at the Lagos/Ibadan
expressway on September 22, 2013, where his mother Fatimoh had died.
The baby was then handed over to a medical team which deposited him for proper medical examination and care at the Ibadan Central Hospital, Ososami road, Ibadan.
On Monday when all arrangement to hand over Abdulrasak to the Motherless baby home had been completed, the police discovered his mother's mobile phone in her bag which was still in the accidental vehicle.
When the phone was switched on after its battery was charged, the message and calls put through to the phone led to contact of two men who came to identify "Emmanuel" and his late mother, leading to the process of handing over the baby to his family.
Receiving Abdulrasak officially from FRSC representative,Mr Molumo bursted into tears while recalling the circumstances that led to the death of his wife, Mrs Fatimah Molumo in the accident.
Abdulrasak's father who was accompanied to the hospital by two female family members said "I am very happy to have my baby back. I thank the FRSC and the police for their support to safe Abdulrasak's life.
His mother will be buried today (Tuesday) at Lalupon Muslim burial ground according to Islamic rites.Dr Olafeso while handing over Abdulrasak to the FRSC Unit head of Operation Oluyole RS 11.32, Ajatta, informed that the hospital had decided to write off the medical bill of the One year four month-old baby.
Ajatta then appeal to motoring public to always complete passengers' manifest
whenever they are travelling. He said "The passengers' manifest is a not an accident warrant as being claimed rather it is meant for easy official contact in case of this development. “He said.
