New York - The Speaker of the National Assembly (AN), Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, reiterated on Monday in New York (USA), the commitment of Angola with other parliaments, aimed for the search and preservation of peace and its benefits, as well as to encourage the resolution of disputes by peaceful means.

Speaking at the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, Fernando da Piedade Dias Dos Santos expressed the interest of the country to combine efforts in order to collaborate with governments worldwide.

The Speaker said to be aware of the enormous challenges faced in the context of climate change, but he believes in the advances to be achieved within the common principles and differentiated responsibility and respective capabilities.

However, the Angolan top MP considered necessary to combine effort so as to converge factors such as competitiveness, job, solidarity and equity at the current world context.

He stressed that the world conference is seen as an important opportunity to reflect on the need for States to develop a strategy that promotes structural changes.

According to the parliamentarian, the structural transformation is an imperative for sustainable growth and development and in this sense, the new framework of poverty eradication, as well as being inclusive, should cover the economic, social and environmental dimensions.

To him, this new framework should focus on human development.

The Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which is running until September 2 in New York, is bringing together Speakers of Parliament from around the world, having a unique opportunity to launch a new era of political leadership with the potential to transform the world.

As from Monday, the UN headquarters in New York will be the "legislative capital" of the world, bringing together about 180 parliamentary leaders, including more than 35 Deputy Speakers, from nearly 140 countries taking part in the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

Angola is being represented by the National Assembly speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, who heads a delegation, composed of MPs Carolina Cerqueira, Exalgina Gamboa and Ernesto Mulato.

The delegation also includes the secretary general of the Angolan Parliament, Pedro Agostinho de Neri.
