The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has directed police commissioners to provide adequate security at the Independent National Electoral Commission offices and also at election tribunal sittings nationwide.
Arase gave this directive when he visited the INEC headquarters, on Wednesday, in Abuja, where he met with the commission's Acting Chairperson, Mrs Amina Zakari.
The IG said the visit was aimed at cementing the existing relationship between the police and INEC in ensuring the actualisation of the commission's mandate, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole.
Zakari expressed INEC's readiness to work with the police in ensuring the success of the forthcoming elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States.
