Gospel musician Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave enthused on her album saying the unveiling of her new album at the just-ended Harare Agricultural Show helped her to reach out to her fans in a special way.
The album titled "Chenai Moyo - Social Fact11" was released during the show and Fungisai was happy to personally unveil the album for her fans.
Though some musicians like Suluman Chimbetu have exhibited at the show in previous editions some music critics questioned her target in releasing the album at the show.
Yesterday the musician said in an interview that her decision was important as she managed to link up with people who loved her music and fashion designs. According to the musician it was an opportunity for her to meet her fans telling them about her designs and music.
"The decision to showcase the album as well as my designs at the show was a good one as it gave me an opportunity to interact with the fans and sell direct to the public," she said. She believes that her fans have an appreciation of her works. "It is difficult for people to understand some of these designs we make. It is up to you the designer to explain further and on such a platform it pays off," said the "Makomborero" hit-maker.
Her album carries seven tracks and is a follow up to her previous successful album "Social Facts" which carried the song "Gore Rapera" featuring Jah Prayzah. It mostly explores social issues and themes touching on various societal norms that affect people in their day to day life.
The musician said the album was a way of addressing social issues in line with how Christians should conduct themselves. "We are not moving away from the gospel. The album is about how people live and how they address social issues that have a bearing on their lives as Christian or non-Christians. For instance, a song like 'Zuva Rabuda' on my previous album encourages children to learn and people to be proactive in life," she said.
She gives reference to the popular biblical verse that encourages people to love one another. "The Bible lists 'love your neighbour' as one of the most important commandments and there is need to address the social and community issues to be able to fulfil that mandate so for me I see it as buttressing my previous albums.
"I think the secret is to love what you do and in turn you will limit the number of disappointments you might face." She added that plans are underway to conduct a "meet the fans tour" in several cities and towns. Her son, Tawananyasha (8), played mbira on some of the tracks on the album.
