President GoodLuck Jonathan has been commended for his steps to prepare the ground for the convocation of national conference that would address myriad of issues yearning for attention in Nigeria.

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered this commendation from the statement made by a number of persons and Executive Director, Peace and Conflict Management, Professor Audu Gambo who said it was a welcomed development provided it is not sovereign national conference (SNC) which he referred to as a recipe for anarchy.

He suggested that the mode of representation for the conference should cut across all segments of the country such that it will serve as national platform for dialogue for people of Nigeria to chart the way forward and voice out their grievance.

He implored Nigerians not to exercise any fear concerning the committee put in place by the president to prepare ground for the national conference adding that no right-thinking Nigerian would advocate for dismemberment of the country.

“Our strength lies in our diversity and unity of the country and many Nigerians are aware of this,”  he said.

Also reacting to the issue, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ofodile Okafor, commended the president, saying it was better to ‘jaw, jaw than to war, war’ ,  adding that the conference would afford Nigerians opportunity to x-ray problems militating against the growth and unity of the country.

The National President, Middle Belt Youth Forum, Mr.  Pius Attah, said the people of  Middle Belt welcomed the national conference with both hands, adding that it was part of the things they had been yearning for, for a very long time.

Attah also cautioned that not everything should be discussed on the premise in that some people might come up with an agenda to destabilize the country, adding that agenda should be set with an instruction that nobody should go outside the terms of reference.
