
While launching his presidential campaign on Wednesday, Chama Cha Ukombozi (CHAUMMA) in Dar es Salaam with its Union presidential aspirant Mr Hashimu Rungwe promising to lower electricity tariffs to make them affordable to all citizens.
Unveiling his party's Election Manifesto at the Manzese-Bakhresa ground, Mr Rungwe assured voters if elected he would reduce electricity charges among his top priorities.
"We'll build enough industries both small and large and ensure the availability of electricity in order to boost our economy," he told his audience.
He said that many countries have developed because of boosting the industrial sector to enable it produce more goods that would penetrate external markets.
He said by boosting the industrial sector, Tanzania would ultimately solve its looming labour crisis and poverty afflicting many people
Mr Rungwe said his government would increase the cost of imported goods to help protect and promote the local industrial base.
"We don't have reasons for not having industries in our country as we have all the key raw materials needed for production. We end up importing what could be produced locally," he said.
He assured people with albinism that under his regime they would lead happier lives because his government will wage a relentless battle against criminals seeking albino body parts.
Chaumma's development priorities as enunciated in its manifesto include improving health and education sectors, job creation and protecting the country's natural resources.
"All natural resources are owned by Tanzanians and must be used judiciously for their own benefit," Mr Rungwe said.
