The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, will today lead 12 governors of the People Democratic Party to the formal declaration for a second term of the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.
CEOAfrica gathered that the former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, will also attend the event as their first public appearance since they left office in May this year.
It was further learnt that the PDP governors, would arrive in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Monday to hold a special meeting scheduled to take place at the Government House.
The meeting, was said to base on the issues affecting the party and to discuss the current situation in the party also on the common agenda for the governor’s declaration and success of the campaign.
A source revealed that the Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, Osaro Onaiwo, was sighted at the Government House in Yenagoa on Sunday meeting with ranking government officials to finalise arrangements for the governors’ meeting on Monday.
The source, who did not want his name on print, said, “From the look of things, the PDP governors are set to storm Yenagoa in full force. You know Bayelsa State holds a lot of significance for the PDP as a political party.
“It is not just a state to be retained but you will also realise that it is the home state of former President Jonathan. So there is so much at stake and they are determined to make the governor’s declaration a show of its own.
“I think the PDP governors want to send out a strong signal of their readiness to keep Bayelsa firmly in the grip of the PDP and as such their presence will be felt on Tuesday in Yenagoa.”
However, another source said on Sunday that it was still not clear if Dame Patience Jonathan would be at the event. The source, however, pointed out that both Patience and her husband were fully behind the re-election of the governor.
An official at the campaign office, Mr. Samuel Beke, said all arrangements had been concluded to begin a state-wide campaign.
