A German company, Knauf Group International, Monday sought the indulgence of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the citing of a $70million (N14billion) tools manufacturing company in Lagos.

The appeal came when the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Zenner, led a group of German diplomats and investors on a courtesy visit to Ambode on Monday.

A representative of the company, Mrs. Isabel Knauf who expressed her company's readiness to commence work on the firm, said the choice of Lagos was informed by its proximity to ports, availability of gas pipeline and a ready market.

She said: "We are looking to invest and build a factory here. We are looking for your support. We have been to Lekki Sea Port and want to proceed on investing straight off. I wish to express our interest in investing about $70million in a construction tools factory in Lagos for the first stage."

Earlier, the ambassador canvassed for an increased presence of German businesses in Lagos and sought improved bilateral trade relations with the state government.

In his remarks, Governor Ambode expressed readiness to receive the investors, describing Lagos as the economic hub of Nigeria and fifth largest economy in Africa which, he said, made the state the investors' first choice of destination in Nigeria.
