Para-soccer Federation of Nigeria (PFN) has on Thursday advocated for the inclusion of the sport in the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF) to be held in Calabar in 2014.
The Vice-President of the sports federation, Theo Lawson, made this call in Lagos, stressing that its inclusion would provide the popularity needed to promote the sports in the country.
He pointed out that the festival will be a good opportunity to create awareness for para-soccer as the NSF is the only major championship that brings the 36 states and Abuja together under the umbrella of a festival.
Lawson further established that people will have more knowledge about the sports even through introducing the sports as a demonstration in the festival, adding that its inclusion will also attract other physically challenged people to the sports, hence making them a worthwhile citizen.
He disclosed that the sport is presently practiced in only 16 states affording the players opportunity to engage themselves in sporting activities which further create means for them to take care of their immediate needs instead of constituting a liability to the society.
Lawson however declare that everything is already in place to ensure a hitch free competition towards the super-four para-four championship scheduled for October 5 at the Indoor Sports Hall, University of Lagos.
