The complexity of passengers aboard the presidential jet, 5N-FGS, which landed at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos in Sunday evening, is bringing up a fresh concern that the River State mission team, plotting the removal of governor Ameachi, has moved up new strategy.

At about 5:30pm on Sunday in Lagos, the presidential jet from Abuja landed, revealing a line of well known anti-Ameachi political juggernauts, comprising of former Governor of Rivers state, Celestine Omehia; Minister of state for education, Nyeson Wike; PDP Chairman Rivers state, Felix Obuah, and Abiye Sebiye, amiable aviation sources told CEOAFRICA news desks.

According to sources, details of what appeared to be a Lagos visit for a meeting were unavailable but by 7:45 pm the meeting was held and the flight with its passenger headed back to Abuja.

The leader of the team, Mr Nyeson Wike, could not be reached at the time of news. Calls made to his telephone were not answered or returned.

The special adviser to the president, Reuben Abati wouldn’t comment for this story. He told our reporter that on Monday he was in a rush to catch a flight but would investigate the allegation and revert as soon as he was able.

Another adviser to the president, who prefers anonymity, said the anti-Ameachi team could have hired the presidential jet. “I am aware there is a unit that does commercial operations so the people can actually pay and use the presidential jet, so if indeed they used a presidential jet, it does not mean that the president knows about it.

The meeting came up two days after October 4, decision of the supreme court to hear the appeal, filed in by Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Ameachi, seeking to nullify the ruling of the court of appeal which gave Celestine Omehia, as the APGA governorship candidate, the right to question the judgement of the federal high court that held that Ameachi’s tenure ended on May 29, 2011.

Speaking on the case, Mr Ogunye said if the team that visited Lagos with presidential jet thought they could expect anything tangible “on the grounds of political tenure, I am sorry for them because it is a failed strategy.”
