It has been disclosed that Nigerians spend an estimated sum of N250 billion on foreign medical cares, in a year.

This was disclosed by the Secretary, Organising Committee of the Nigerian Centenary Charity Ball, Dr. Kingsley Esegbue at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

Dr. Esegbue who condemned the continuous capital flight on account of Nigerian affection for foreign hospital, also disclosed that the committee has the plan to generate about N8 billion for medical facilities in the country.

He said that the capital flight was unnecessary for a developing country like Nigeria, urging Nigerians to reconsider their love for foreign hospitals at the detriment of Nigeria’s.

He posited further that the medical problems that caused these medical flights could be handled in Nigeria if the facilities were put in place and maintained.

He argued that sealing a hole in a child’s heart need not cripple the parents financially or take place in India and that replacing a damaged kidney should and can be done within Nigerian borders.

He concluded however, that Nigerian Centenary Charity Ball hoped to achieve upgraded medical care in Nigeria by equipping existing National Referral Centres for heart, kidney diseases, neurosurgery, cancer care and management.
