CEOAFRICA has gathered from Port- Harcourt, Rivers State a faction of state’s lawmakers have impeached the speaker of the house, Hon Otelemaba Dan Amachree.

It was gathered that the move for the impeachment was led by Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi, notable for being the arrowhead of the group opposed to Amachree’s leadership. Bipi has been elected as the new speaker with immediate effect.

It was reported that the impeachment procedures has caused pandemonium at the State House of Assembly, as thugs swooped on the House while some lawmakers engaged in physical combat which has left some of them injured.

Furthermore, the House Leader, Hon.Chidi Lloyd, along with fifteen others was reportedly suspended by the anti-Amachree lawmakers.

There have been speculations that the Speaker’s impeachment is just a plot within a plot which has Governor Rotimi Amaechi as the main target.

Confirming the incident, Rivers state commissioner of information, Mrs Ibim Seminitari, while briefing the press about the issue, claims that Hon. Bipi, having being frustraded for the inability of the House to impeach Gov. Amaechi, walked up to the Speaker along with some of his colleague, and started beating him up. This brought about pandemonium as groups supporting Amachree and Bipi started dragging the Mace with each other. Upon hearing this from the government house which is a few blocks away from the assembly, the governor set off in his motorcade to the assembly with his security and upon his arrival, the fight intensified with pro Bipi lawmakers throwing things at the governor. Cars were destroyed; people were injured, as the Commissioner promised to make an official release about the incident.
