PUBLIC HEARING, AN OPTION TO RESOLVE FG/ASUU CLASH

Frequent release from Federal Government and Academic Staff

Union of University has made it very difficult for dialogue and negotiation to bring resolution in the contending issues that has underscored the strike embarked by ASUU.

Nigerians are bordered that despite the succession of closed

door meetings, the two parties had ended up in deadlock. It is high time independent bodies like CEOAFRICA, NGO and the Cleric come in to the picture, to organize public hearing for both as people are distressed that nothing else has been heard from the President apart from the media chat in which President GoodLuck came out in the open to state that the Federal Government cannot afford to meet all the demands of ASUU.The situation is becoming unusual compare to what is obtainable in the past whereby dialogue and negotiations settles grievances and eventually put an end to strike.

The Federal Government should probably come out to declare to the hearing of Nigerians when and how they intend to meet the entire demand since what they are ready to offer at the moment to ASUU is insignificant to the agreement both parties entered for in 2009,Nigerians would not want to believe that the administration is not interested in proper funding of education in the country. The situation at hand could also mean that both parties are fighting a good course, as it seems that the Lobby police have failed this time considering the fact that strike had ended in the past with biased resolution.

The point therefore is that independent bodies and media like CEOAFRICA who are known to promote continental interest should step in, help convey a media chat between ASUU and Federal Government, in which the FG would state when and how they intend to meet the need of ASUU, in other to ensure an unbiased conflict resolution.

Education has been the hallmark of development in the developed countries, Nigeria not an exception if the country must advance from its present state. ASUU is not too small to have a dialogue

with the President, but if the government can no longer fund the University staff, it can as well lay them off and recruit slaves who would not complain to do the work.

Nigeria has been yearning for national development, it is only through unbiased conflict resolution that we can forge ahead. Public hearing should therefore be giving a trial at this level

those negotiations could not bring an end to the incessant strike
