No fewer than 300 unemployed youths from Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday benefited from job tools worth N10 million. The unemployed youths were selected from the 12 wards within the council under the vocational training skill programme.

Speaking to CEOAFRICA reporter during the distribution of the tools, held at the council headquarters, Iwo Road, Ibadan, the Transition Committee Chairman, Mr Lukman Alatise noted that the youth have undergone vocational training in areas such as computer operation, fashion designing, hairdressing, phone repairs, electrical installation and auto-mechanic.

According to him, the programme was aimed at complementing the effort of Governor Ajimobi at reducing poverty level to the barest minimum. “20 unemployed youths were selected within the 12 wards and trained to be self employed. The economic recession has created more hardship for our people due to an increase in unemployment."In view of this problem, the executives have to come up with an empowerment programme so that our people can be self-employed in order to meet up with the present challenges,” he said.

Alatise advised the beneficiaries to make the best use of their equipment in order to justify the aims of the council, adding that the council will put up a monitoring committee to ensure adequate usage. In her remark, wife of the Oyo State governor, Florence Ajimobi commended the council boss for his good gesture."Anybody that thinks of training the unemployed youths and at the end provided job tools has gone along way to provide food on the table. He has taught them how to kill the fish and not just giving them fish" she said

She urged the empowered youth to make the best use of the material, while admonishing everybody to continue to support the government of Governor Ajimobi in order to sustain the peace and tranquility been witnessed in the state.

Items donated to the beneficiaries included computer systems, sewing machines, washing basin, hair dryers, mechanical and electrical tools, among others.
