The Federal Government has declined the suggestion to involve past President/Head of State, governors and traditional rulers in its current disagreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

According to the source, the suggestion was made by the National President of Nigerian Union of Teachers, Michael Olukoya in Abuja after a palliative meeting with the Minister of Education, Nyeson Wike; and the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu.

Meanwhile, the suggestion was said to have been provoked by the recent threats by the NUT to embark on sympathy strike with ASUU, if government failed to resolve the crisis and no positive response has been made towards the suggestion since it was made.

A statement by the Minister of Education, Nyeson Wike however has left doubt about the involvement of the past leaders in resolving the impasse but the Minister maintain that the government is desirous to find a lasting solution and that it working towards it.
