President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday called on leaders to leave legacies behind while in office.

Jonathan made the call in Okrika, Rivers, at the burial of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Charity Oba.

He said the most important thing for leaders was to be remembered for the good things they left behind after leaving office.

Further addressing the population at the event, Jonathan pointed out that the key thing is what one left behind and not necessarily whether the person is being buried silently or have the privilege of being honoured by so many people.

He noted that politics or holding political office to him, as a political leader and to most of my friends who are politicians is almost like death, illustrating that being a politician is like being on a stage whereby the legacy left behind matters a lot.

Mr. President revealed that the question of legacy has always been his guiding principle, no matter the comments are coming from the left, right or at the centre, stressing that it has been all about what the present and future generations of Nigerians will remember him for.

Jonathan described Oba as a generous mother and a wonderful woman worthy of emulation.

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan  speaking at the funeral ceremony, eulogises her late mother relating that late Madam Charity provided for her even as wife of Deputy Governor, wife of Governor, wife of Vice-President, and as wife of President until she breathe her last breathe.
