As the meeting between former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and G-7 Governors ended yesterday in Abeokuta, Niger State Governor, Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu, said it was just to consult with the elder statesman concerning burning issues in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking about the outcome of the meeting on behalf of others, Governor Babangida said:

“We are here as part of our consultation. If you recall, when the issue started, we consulted with some of our elders and this is part of the consultation. More so, we are coming to the resolution of the matters. We believe that very soon, we will be discussing with the president.”

It would be recalled that yesterday, five of the seven aggrieved PDP Governors had a lengthy discussion with former president Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta home. Those in attendance were Governors Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rabiu Musa Kwankwonso (Kano) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), while Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed and his Sokoto State counterpart, Magatakarda Wamako were unavoidably absent at the meeting.

They are members of the Abubakar Baraje-led faction of the PDP that is opposed to Bamanga Tukur as the national chairman of the ruling party. The faction is also opposed to the re-election plan of President Goodluck Jonathan.
