Over 400 families have been rendered homeless in Omasi Community, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a violent windstorm that hit the area Monday night.

CEOAFRICA gathered that the windstorm, which was said to have started midnight, had roofs of many public buildings, including primary schools and churches and private homes blown off.

The incident was said to have been confirmed by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) boss, Dr. Nwabufo Ijezie, who also stated that the agency was already in control.

According to Dr. Ijezie, the state government, through his office, had sent a rescue mission to Omasi community for the assessment of the situation after which proper attention will be given to the victims.

Red Cross Adviser in Anambra State, Mr. Peter Emeka, is quoted to have said that other relevant agencies had been contacted and that the society had mobilized members to the community for emergency operations.

One Mrs. Uzoh, a head mistress, reported that her school was closed down due to the havoc caused by the windstorm while another victim, Mr. Donatus Okafor, also said that his neighbors who were not affected had been feeding and taken care of them since the incidence.

The victims however are appealing to the government and other spirited individuals to come to their aid.
