CEOAFRICA gathered that the Labour Party has accused both the All Progressive Grand Alliance and the All Peoples Congress of being desperate to win the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

The party stated this following the incident that led to the death of worshippers at the Adoration Ground in Uke, Idemili South Local Government area of the state.

In a statement by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu; and the National Secretary, Alhaji A. Salam, the party also commiserated with the families of the victims.

The statement read, “We condemn in very strong terms the extreme desperation by the leaders of APGA and APC to win the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State at all costs.

“There is no justification for going to a place of worship to campaign. It is sacrilegious and despicable for the Governor of Anambra State and the defacto leader of APGA to lead the National Chairman of his party, Chief Victor Umeh; and the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Willy Obiano; and other party stalwarts to storm the Adoration Ground at Uke to canvass for votes.

“As if their presence at the ground was not enough assault on the sensibilities of innocent worshipers, who have come from far and wide to seek the face of God and solution to their numerous problems, Governor Peter Obi mounted the altar and began to reel out his government achievements and made promises of greater accomplishments if his party candidate is elected.”

The LP said the action of the APGA leaders and the counter action of the APC were all pre-planned and “clinically executed.”

It added that the event would remain a sad chapter in the political history of the state and Nigeria.

The party said that unlike the  Boko Haram insurgence whose perpetrators remained faceless, the perpetrators of the dastardly act at Uke were known.

It, therefore, recommended a high-powered judicial panel of inquiry to bring the perpetrators to book.

It described the panel set up by Obi to investigate the tragedy as laughable, alleging that the governor, government officials and leaders of his party were at the centre of the mayhem.
