Senate President Mark Leads Delegates To Cheer Up Golden Eaglets In UAE

Ahead of tomorrow’s FIFA U-17 World Cup final between the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria and their counterpart from Mexico, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has appointed Senate President, David Mark as the leader of a powerful Federal Government’s delegate that will go to United Arab Emirates and cheer the young Nigerians to victory.

In a statement released from the presidency, and signed by Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, President Jonathan urged the boys to do Nigeria and Africa Proud by confirming their superiority over the Mexicans, who they beat 6-1 in the opening game of Group F and win the trophy for a record fourth time.

President Jonathan assured the boys of solid support, while informing them that he awaits their arrival with the trophy as the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Joining the Senate President on the trip are Minister of Labour Emeka Worgu, Minister of Special Duties Alh. Aminu Turaki, Minister of Water Resources Mrs. Sarah Ochepe, and Minister of State for FCT Jumoke Akinjide.

The Golden Eaglets will face tournament’s defending Champions Mexico in the final of the World Cadets Championship at the beautiful Abu Dhabi National Stadium, with FIFA President Sepp Blatter expected to lead other world football personalities that will grace the epic final.

To reach the final, Mexico lost 6-1 to Nigeria at the group phase, but bounced back to beat Iraq 3-1 and Sweden 1-0 before qualifying for the round of 16, where they beat Italy 2-0, and defeated Brazil 10-11 in the dramatic quarter-final penalty shootout, before beating Argentina 3-0 in the Semi-final to set up a re-match with the Eaglets in the Final.

On the other side, Golden Eaglets walloped their Mexican counterpart 6-1 in the group phase, but were held 3-3 by Sweden and defeated Iraq 5-1 to top Group F. In the round of 16, the Nigerians defeated Iran 4-0, while showing class against Uruguay 2-0 in the quarter-finals, before showing their superiority over Sweden 3-0 in the semi-final as they wait to scale the hurdle of Mexico in the final.
