24 Dies As Train Collided With Buses In Egypt

EGYPT- In Cairo, a train which crashes into a minibus and other vehicles have claimed the lives of over 24 people and injured 28.

CEOAFRICA discovered that the freight train, which took off from the city of Bani Swaif, reportedly hit the vehicles at a crossing.

It was gathered that many killed on the bus were members of the extended family returning from a wedding.

Monday's collision happened near the village of Dahshur, with reports saying the minibus and two other vehicles were involved.

Speaking about the incident, Hussein Zakaria, head of Egypt’s railway authority told newsmen that the crossing gates of the tracks had been closed, yet drivers were crossing the rail track.

"The crossing was closed with chains, there were warning lights,” he said.

Ambulances later arrived at the scene to take the injured to hospitals. There are fears that the death toll could rise further.
