Update2:

Despite merger by the G-7 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party said the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the aggrieved governors would still hold on Sunday, December 1, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to a release signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday, the party said it recognizes the right of an individual to join any association and political party he/she desires.

Yesterday, the Kawu Baraje-led New PDP announced yesterday that they have merged with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to “rescue our fledgling democracy and the nation.”

Seven governors elected on the platform of the PDP belonged to the splinter group. They are Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Chubuike Amaechi (Rivers), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Babangida Aliyu (Niger).

Metuh said PDP remain unperturbed with the merger, adding that the party was happy to get rid of detractorsand distractions.

 “We wish to state categorically that the PDP remains unperturbed as we are now rid of detractors and distractions. We urge all our members nationwide to remain focused and close ranks, now that agents of distraction have finally left our ranks.

“We assure all Nigerians that the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength and will definitely emerge stronger from this event.”

The PDP reminded its members that there were no factions whatsoever in the party, stressing that in the eyes of the law, the party remained one and an indivisible entity under the leadership of Bamanga Tukur, its national chairman.

Update 1:

Also, the New Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Abubakar Kawu Baraje, has dumped PDP for APC.

This was revealed in a statement read by the National Chairman of the nPDP ,Alhaji Kawu Baraje after a meeting with the APC Chieftains in Abuja.

It reads:"A meeting of the leaders of APC and the New PDP met this morning at the residence of the Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwonso, in Abuja.

"After exhaustive deliberations, the two parties agreed to merge in order to rescue our fledgling democracy."

NIGERIA- Report reaching the news desk of CEOAFRICA online news from Abuja revealed that the aggrieved G-7 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governors are; Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rotimi Amaechi( Rivers), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Magatakarda Wamako (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Rabiu Kwankwonso (Kano).
