MAN ARRAIGNED FOR HAVING CANAL KNOWLEDGE OF DAUGHTER IN IBADAN

A 48-year-old man, Sanni Idowu, was today remanded in Agodi Prison for having unlawful canal knowledge of his 15-year-old daughter.

CEOAFRICA gathered that Idowu was arrested on October 23 at Ifedapo, Amuloko area in the Ibadan Magistrate District for the offence which he also pleaded not guilty when charges were read to him.

The prosecuting police officer S. Ogunremi said the offence contravened section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol II Laws of Oyo state of Nigeria 2000.

Sanni while speaking with the journalists admitted committing the crime but said it was devil that pushed him into it.

He also added that he started the illicit affair with his daughter this year, contrary to 2007 as been claimed.  "I don't know what came over me, I know it’s an abominable act, I know its evil, but I only slept with her thrice, she lied against me when she said I sleep with her every time. She was tutored to lie against me".

According to the victim, (name withheld), his father, Mr. Idowu have been having canal knowledge of her since she was 10 and had always threatened to disown and deal with her if she let anyone know about it.

She purported to be an only child of her mother who is no longer with her father, noting that she had always told her sick step mother but she has not been able to do anything because of her ill health.

The victim further revealed that it was a neigbour who she later confided in that reported the matter to Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria who in turn followed up the matter and subsequently arraigning the suspect.

However, the presiding Magistrate, S.A Oyediran has adjourned the case till December 9 for hearing.
