A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused hearing on an application by a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain seeking to compel the police to reopen the national headquarters of the party.

Justice Abdul Kafarati yesterday ruled that there was no evidence of service of the motion-on-notice on the defendant.

He directed the applicant’s counsel, Joel Onumonu, who informed the court that he has proof of service shown by the court bailiffs, to serve the defendants before the next hearing of the case.

Engr. Emmanuel Nwosu brought the fundamental rights enforcement application against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris over the continued closure of the PDP headquarters, also known as ‘Wadata Plaza’, which forced staff out of the premises.

The PDP has been embroiled in crisis over national chairmanship dispute between Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi, which is presently before the Appeal Court in Abuja.

Last week, administrative staff of the party staged a protest demanding the re-opening of the Wuse Zone 5 secretariat of the party.

The case has been adjourned to February 1 for hearing.
