Vice Chancellor of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, Professor Labode Popoola, has debunked rumours that two students of institution shot by policemen on Saturday had died in a hospital where they were receiving treatment.
Prof. Poopola stated that the insinuations that the shot students were dead were not true, noted that the students were responding to treatments “I would like to inform parents, guardians and all stakeholders that it was true some policemen, on Saturday morning, shot and wounded two of our students for yet unclear reasons. Immediately we were informed, we acted swiftly, taking the victims to safety. They are now receiving the best available care in one of the best hospitals in the state,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor called on students and other members of the university community to maintain peace and go about their normal businesses, assuring that the institution management and security agencies were on top of the situation. He stated “we wish to state clearly also that relevant authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident and justice will be done immediately.”
