Following the state’s local government election scheduled for February 11 by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), the Federal High Court in Ibadan has restrained the commission from conducting its planned local government elections.
Ceoafrica learnt that the development has rattled politicians and other stakeholders who were looking forward to the elections into the 33 local governments and 35 Local Council Development Area (LCDAs) in the state.
The council poll was coming 10 years after the last exercise was conducted in 2007, during the tenure of former governor Rashidi Ladoja.
However, some village heads(Baales) in Oyo West, Atiba and Oyo East local governments dragged the commission to court, last Friday, seeking an order restraining it from conducting the planned election pending the determination of the case.
Sources revealed that the Village heads were aggrieved that delineation of the LCDAs ceded away part of their domains.
It was learnt that parts of their domains were ceded to Afijio in the delineation, hence they wanted the issue resolved before any election can hold.
