Nigeria- The Kebbi state government has issued an indefinite restriction order on the movement of private and commercial motorcycles between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This was contained in a statement by Alhaji Nurudeen Kangiwa, the Secretary to the State Government and made available to reporters in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the statement, the ban was approved by the State Security Council.
“Members of the public are requested to comply with the ban on the movement of motorcycles during the prescribed hours in their own interests.”

“Security agencies have also been mandated to arrest and prosecute violators,” the statement stated.
The restriction, which is within the metropolis, is part of efforts to curb the incessant cases of armed robberies and other criminal activities.

The state government also announced that additional 2,000 tricycles, 100 18-seater buses and 100 cars would be added to the state mass transit pool to ease the movement.

Some commercial motorcycles owners who spoke with reporters have however called on members to adhere to the ban adding that it would lead to a reduction in the rate of crime in the state.
