Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday said God has entrenched peace in the state by answering the prayer of Christians who wanted peace and development to thrive in the state. The governor said based on the support of the church, his administration would hand over the State Ecumenical Centre to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the management of the facility.
The governor, who spoke when he received CAN President, His Eminence, Samson Ayokunle, who also doubles as the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, expressed gratitude to God for the peace in the state.
Wike said: “We are enjoying peace today in Nigeria because of the prayers of the church. The peace being enjoyed across the state today is the outcome of prayers of Christian in the state. “Today, there is absolute peace in the state with massive development taking place across the state. We are grateful to God for entrenching peace in Rivers State.”
The governor thanked CAN for organising a peace rally in the state, noting that it will further enhance peace in the state, just as he announced that the government will support the Nigerian Baptist Convention in the hosting of its convention in the state in 2018.
The CAN President had earlier lauded the governor for his support to the body of Christ, and for his commitment in the ongoing construction of a State Ecumenical Centre, which will promote unity among Christian denominations, noting that the church will use the centre to promote Christianity.
