Jonathan Jets Out For Mandela Today

NIGERIA- Ahead of the burial of Nelson Mandela, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will, today, leave Abuja to join other leaders at celebration leading to the final burial of the Nobel Laureate.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson, Reuben Abati, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan will be accompanied by the Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri and other contingents.

He will be joining over 59 world leaders at the ceremony.

Activities marking the funeral of the late Icon began yesterday in South Africa a services were held in his honour across churches, synagogues, mosques and worship centres.

On Monday, a joint parliamentary session will hold in honour of Mr. Mandela.

The South African parliament is also organising a special exhibition that traces, in Mandela’s words, the transformation of Parliament and South Africa during his presidency.

The “Madiba Speaks exhibition” will be open on that day.

CEOAFRICA.com also gathered that on Tuesday, a national memorial service will be held across South Africa. The official memorial service will be held at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

South African President, Jacob Zuma, will address the official memorial service as Heads of State from all over the world, and representatives of international and regional organisations will pay their tributes at the service.

Between Wednesday and Friday, Mr. Mandela’s remains will lie in state at the seat of South African government, the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

It was also revealed that President Jonathan will, on Wednesday, leave for Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where he will attend Kenya’s 50years Independence Anniversary Celebration.

President Jonathan is expected back in Nigeria by Dec.12, three days before Mr. Nelson Mandela will be interred at Qunu in the Eastern Cape.
