The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Colonel Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) has approved a grace period of one month for the payment of car custom duties by vehicle owners who are yet to pay their custom duties.
According to a press statement released by the agency and made available to CEOAfrica, the one-month grace period will take effect from Monday March 13th and last till Wednesday 12th April, 2017.
The Customs Boss in the statement, called on persons who are in possession of vehicles whose custom duties have not been paid to take advantage of this deadline extension and grace period to pay the appropriate duties on them.
The CGC warned that failure to adhere to this order before the deadline on Wednesday 12th April, 2017 will result in seizure of the smuggled vehicles and prosecution of owners of such smuggled vehicles as aggressive anti-smuggling operation will be mounted across the country.
Consequently, the agency advises all motor dealers and private owners of such vehicles to visit the nearest Customs Zonal Office to pay the appropriate customs duties on them, adding that all private vehicles who are not sure of the authenticity of their vehicles custom documents can also visit the Zonal Offices for the verification.
The four Zonal Offices of the Nigerian Customs service are; Zone A Headquarters, No 1 Harvey Road, Yaba, Lagos; Zone B Headquarters, Kabala Doki, Kaduna; Zone C Headquarters, Nigeria Ports Authority, Port Harcourt; Zone D Headquarters Yelwar Tudu Road, Bauchi State.
