ZAMBIA- A total of 20 pre-school teachers will recruited and deployed to 10 primary schools in Lufwanyama District on the Copperbelt, Zambia in a move which is in readiness for the launch of the Early Childhood Education programme next year.

Speaking about the development, Lufwanyama District Education Board Secretary Hildah Kulelwa said the Government had realised the importance of early childhood education which provides the basis for early reading and writing skills.

Mrs. Kulelwa said this yesterday during the early childhood care and development graduation ceremony held at St Joseph's Friary Hall in Lufwanyama.

She said Government had put in place measures to ensure that early childhood education was revitalised and implemented even in primary schools.

In her speech, Ms Kulelwa said Lufwanyama needed a proactive education system that was and able to respond to the local needs.

"The people of Lufwanyama are demanding for an education system that should meet their socio-economic aspirations right from an early stage.

"And today we are gathered here to witness the kind of education needed in the district," Ms Kulelwa said.

She said the work done by Save the Children in Lufwanyama in the provision of early childhood education was commendable.

She noted that Save the Children undertook training of early childhood education teachers who had since graduated and were conferred with certificates.
